THE LITTLE ACTOR IS EXPANDING HIS repertoire. He's been learning to act like a horse, even going so far as to learn the equine language!

IN MY NECK OF THE WOODS,
things are getting cropped.

The missing cornstalks changed the face of my Four-Loop Park.

I was there again yesterday evening. This time Mr. Bullfrog waited until the final leg of my final loop to croak a "hello."

Come to think of it, I was about to head home; he was more likely saying "goodbye."

I HAVE A VERY DEAR friend who is refreshingly honest. It disturbs her when she perceives someone to be glossing over or pussyfooting around or dumbing down or totally misinterpreting the truth. WHAT?! She sounds amazed that one would be so self-deceived, and then she points out the plain and simple facts about the matter as she sees them. I love this about her. I love to hear her squawking that the emperor's wearing no clothes, for heaven's sake! Even when I'm thinking, come on now, it sure looks to me like he's managed to scramble into at least a pair of pants and a top hat, I still like to hear her describing the fallacy of the idea.

So, being this tell-it-like-it-is kind of a person, once this friend suggested to me it's not good to always relay to the world just the happy and well-dressed and got-it-all-together part of existence (It's true that even the emperor has his problems!) How's anyone to know they're not the only one bumbling through life if everyone else is only presenting successes? (Of course, periodically someone ends up in a colossal heap on the sidewalk, and all around there is clucking and tsk-tsking and lots of heavy sighs of relief for the chance to go on pretending about one's self).

With all that having been said--Here it is: my flower bed, today.

Hardly a success by anyone's standards!
(I'm quite sure even the emperor would agree--when fully clothed).

I HAVE A CHANGE OF ROUTINE, although to call it a "routine" is probably just wishful thinking. Here's the fact--I'm not walking "the walk" anymore. For the past month, my exercise has been taken at a nearby park. It's not so far to drive (exactly two miles), the stepping-along is all on the level (no uphill huffing and puffing), there are no cars swishing by me (just dogs, trotting or sniffing), and the lovely loop of the walking trail is executed in exactly ten minutes (at my arm-swinging best).

Today being one (of a handful) of the very finest-weather days of the whole entire year, and my yard man being gone on his and his son's and his son-in-law's Most Excellent Camping-slash-Hiking Adventure, and my
visiting NYC sis having returned to her NYC home, I spent four loops at the park.

It's such a simple little park, Dear Reader, one might suppose that taking one's exercise here might have
the blandness of a treadmill (I must confess, it was my fear).

But it wasn't long before I learned to know the abundance of engaging details:

There's a small body of water, a pleasing little vegetated pond, where dwells at least one bullfrog (I've never met him, but he often croaks hello).

And, yipee, there's a small flow of water, as well (which some--who never did live beside an actual river--may call a river
[it's only a creek, Dear Reader, though it
tends to swell to river-like proportions when there's lots of rain. It swells and rushes, carries canoes, and entertains many a swimmer--canine and otherwise.
Today, in its undisguised, low-creek state, it disappointed would-be canoeists]).

Of course, there are trees of all sizes. This spectacular one is my favorite, though I have yet to discover its name (I learn to know the names of dogs on a regular basis).

Best of all, there's a huge arena--I never know what the show of the day will be.

Today's was delightful!

I'm trying my best to make this
'Four Loops at the Park' a routine.

YESTERDAY EVENING I WENT TO bestow upon the chickens a feast of corncobs and watermelon rinds, with a side of avocado skins, red pepper stems and wilted lettuce leaves.
Who should I see but Ms. Chicken-Who-Walks-About, walking about with two friends!!

Ms.Chic-Who  was clucking animatedly to the other two, "Oh, you're going to love this--running around wherever you please! Old Mr. Cock (I'm sorry, Reader Dear;that's what she called him!) can crow all he wants for you to behave, just ignore it! It's Chicken's Lib!" She pecked the ground excitedly. "The Yard Man lives here, you know--that guy who steals our would-be chicks every morning. He's a sweetheart, really. If he sees you out here in the great open world, he's liable to pick you up and give you a hug!"

Just then she spotted me coming their way. Awk! She flapped her wings and flew into the fenced-in area. "But look out for that woman he lives with!"  she squawked, "She's a disgrace to all liberated females! If she sees you out here, she'll screech and holler and threaten WING-CLIPPING or WORSE!"
